The lawyers are among us: In the forty years since the court cases against Baader and Ensslin, the three then defense lawyers of the socialist fighters have embarked on careers that could not have taken them to more different places: Otto Schily, back then a brilliant elite lawyer on the left, later quit the Green party he had helped to found, joined the SPD and served as a stern Minister of the Interior; Hans-Christian Ströbele, then a lawyer in training, is still an intellectual leader and the token leftist of the eco-party; and Horst Mahler, Baader's defense attorney, now denies the Holocaust and is associated with the right-wing NPD. In this fascinating documentary, director Birgit Schulz examines the turbulent life journeys of three former lawyers who have left their mark on the Federal Republic.
