Polanski's first Hollywood feature immediately became one of his greatest successes with the audience. At first glance, though, "Rosemary's Baby" could not be further removed from the zeitgeist of the time: at the height of the flower-power movement, Polanski had made a film about Satanism. A newly wed couple moves into a gorgeous, neo-gothic apartment building across from New York's Central Park. Nothing really stands in the way of a happy family life, but when Rosemary becomes pregnant, a terrifying suspicion comes along: is a sect of Devil worshippers abusing her as a surrogate mother for the child of Satan? Her husband also appears to be in on the conspiracy against her.
