A small radio station in the midst of the Nicaraguan rain forest broadcasts traditional music, personal greeting messages, and missing mule reports. But its focus on women is what lends this project its revolutionary social impact: in a country with wanton domestic violence, the "Palabra de Mujer," in conjunction with the local women's center, is a symbol for major social change to many people.
In her documentary, Susanne Jäger's considerate research reveals the chauvinism of the South and Central American society as well as a corrupt judicial system. But Jäger's atmospherically dense, thoughtful film also instills confidence and a fighting spirit.
