Maybe Flight of the Conchords should not be surprised at their lack of success. In their songs, the duo compares love to a roll of sellotape (the end is hard to find in both of them), or propose a threesome to one of their lovers with her roommate – not exactly the stuff world hits are made of. The two New Zealanders hope for their great breakthrough in New York, but lack the necessary grit and any feeling whatsoever for commercial prospects. On top of that, their manager turns out to be utterly inept. "The Flight of the Conchords" is captivating for its dry humor and for duets that are as brilliant as they are absurd, accomplishing a skilful fusion of folk, soul, and indie rock. The men behind the HBO sitcom are the two musicians, authors and comedians Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, whose Flight of the Conchords music is released on the legendary Sub Pop label.
