If you got nothing to lose, you can dare anything. Walt will soon turn 50. He has never smoked, but a persistent cough is plaguing him. His doctor diagnoses him with lung cancer. Walt does not have long to live. The unimposing chemistry teacher, who is treated by his students as if he was not there, decides to apply his knowledge in a more profitable way: he installs a crystal meth production lab in his mobile home. He wants a better life for his wife and his handicapped son after his own death. The eight-part TV series "Breaking Bad" boasts a humor as black as its images of New Mexico desert landscapes are glisteningly bright. Despite the absurdity of the story, "Hancock" author and "The X Files" producer Vince Gilligan sticks stunningly close to real life, which makes the comic aspects even snappier.
