Filmography – Julien Temple – Director: Best of Bowie, 2002; Glastonbury, 2006; Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten, 2007
The letters are gently curved: "Eternity" says the writing on the tarmac. The lettering was created by an illiterate man, who wrote the word about 500,000 times. A petty crook and alcoholic, Arthur Stance had already lived a hard life when he heard a sermon that would change his fate on August 6th 1930, at the age of 46. From then on, he spent almost four decades roving about Sydney to write the word "Eternity" on streets, walls, and doors with a piece of chalk. In 1995, the Cologne Conference already featured a documentary about the life of this unusual messenger of God. Julien Temple has now made an Australian opera about Stance into a film. Known for his punk films (e.g. "Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle," and "Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten"), the Briton has made "Eternity Man" a masterful and visually stunning mix of theater, music video, and biopic.
