Filmography – Harmony Korine – Director: “Stop for a Moment”, 2001; David Blaine: Above the Below, 2003; Sonic Youth: Corporate Ghost, 2004
Marilyn Monroe sings in a home for the elderly, Michael Jackson dances in front of the Arc de Triomphe, and Werner Herzog lets nuns take flight. Harmony Korine's third feature film, "Mister Lonely," is full of such surreal visual ideas. It revolves around a group of celebrity imitators who want to stage a vaudeville revue in a Scottish castle. In the course of this endeavor, Michael Jackson falls in love with Marilyn Monroe, Abraham Lincoln curses incessantly, and Charlie Chaplin turns out to be a truly great dictator. Indie whiz kid Korine ("Julien Donkey Boy") again proves to be an equally inventive and unpredictable filmmaker with a propensity for high-profile guest stars: besides Herzog, French filmmaker Leos Carax and former Stones muse Anita Pallenberg also make appearances.
