Any everyday action can dramatically change one’s life from one moment to the other. In the tradition of "Coronation Street" and "EastEnders", Jimmy McGovern's BBC series "The Street" shows how several people living on a perfectly ordinary residential street in Northern England are thrown off course by a chain of unfortunate events. A moment of carelessness leads to a severe accident in the first episode, with far-reaching consequences for everyone involved up to and including the eye witnesses. Like in Robert Altman's "Short Cuts", a mosaic of stories is assembled to create a panorama of the drama of human existence. Featuring outstanding performances by actors Jim Broadbent, Timothy Spall and others.
