Will superheroes really fit on a small screen? NBC has dared to put them on and pulled a win out of it. The hit series "Heroes" traces the fates of just under a dozen people from all over the world, who discover in the aftermath of a solar eclipse that they have special powers. However, the emphasis is less on spectacular action scenes and more on how these exceptional abilities impact the daily lives of the anything but speckless heroes. The series does without latex costumes or masks. "Heroes" takes its characters seriously and thus manages to balance science fiction and conventional drama - even though, in the end, of course, nothing less than the fate of the world is on the line.
