In 1969, Nico and French filmmaker Philippe Garrel meet. Shortly after they first get to know each other they move in together, and start a relationship that would last ten years. During this period Nico acts in seven of his movies, with 1972's "La cicatrice interieure" being their first collaboration. In this episodic film, Nico plays several women in Egypt, in Death Valley and in Iceland, respectively, who are "saved" by different men, who in turn are all played by either Garrel or Pierre Clémenti – best known as the young sadist from Buñuel's "Belle du jour". Featuring music from Nico's album "Desertshore", this experimental piece consists of only 23 shots and is spellbinding in its landscape photography that appears almost abstract.
