Africa, a continent of catastrophes? "Sisters in Law" does not show hunger-bloated bellies, child soldiers or AIDS sick people. Instead, Kim Longinotto’s documentary presents an inspiring example of the successful enforcement of the rule of law. The film depicts the work of an attorney and a judge in a small community in Cameroon. Faced every day with cases of forced marriage, intramarital violence and abuse, they know how to employ the authority vested in them by the state to defeat discriminating traditions and male claims to superiority. A tedious process, but a surprisingly successful one.
