Selected Filmography Michel Gondry: The Science of Sleep, 2005; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2004; I've Been Twelve Forever, 2003; One Day..., 2001; Human Nature, 2001.
Commercials, music video clips and feature films have established French director Michel Gondry as one the most ingenious filmmakers in recent years. “Block Party” is proof that he is also capable of producing remarkable results in the well-established genre of concert documentaries. Then again, it wasn’t an ordinary concert that Gondry came along for with his camera. African-American comedian Dave Chappelle invited his favorite musicians to participate in a free open-air concert in Brooklyn in September, 2004: hip-hop and R&B stars such as Kanye West, Mos Def and Erykah Badu performed on stage, leading up to the main event – the reunion of the Fugees. Chappelle keeps in the background, but allows his stand-up skills to shine backstage and even days before the concert, when he goes on a trip through his hometown in Ohio and invites perfect strangers from the street to his party.
