Nick Broomfield is known for sticking his nose where there’s trouble to stir. In “Kurt & Courtney”, the British documentary filmmaker went looking for proof that Courtney Love was behind the death of Kurt Cobain. Now, in “Biggie & Tupac”, he pursues a new lead: he suspects that the murder of rap stars Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur were not the result of a feud between East and West Coast gangs, but rather a means for Tupac’s label boss Suge Knight to resolve his financial problems. While Broomfield’s chain of evidence is not always conclusive, his courage to pose unpleasant questions even in the diciest of situations makes his search for clues enthralling until the very end.
