"The Brian Jonestown Massacre" and "The Dandy Warhols" – their names alone are telling: These two bands are living out their Sixties’ dreams of Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll. But while the Dandy Warhols rise to some success after years of doing small time gigs, their friend Anton Newcombe and his band Brian Jonestown Massacre make their way down the road of drugs, ego tripping and violence. Ondi Timoner observes the rise and fall of the bands over the course of seven years. Beneath the surface of cocaine parties and brawls on stage, she discerns an instructive parable on the utter lunacy of the music industry. It won her the Documentary Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.
