Cheap entertainment programs still clutter TV schedules around the world. However, they are growing increasingly tiresome to audiences and advertisers alike, and are challenged by promising new programs focusing on consumer service matters as well as major social issues. Covering a broad range of topics - from education to nutrition, from ecological concerns to the failing job market -, "Good TV" attempts to reconcile entertainment and a sense of social responsibility, easing the discomfort felt by estranged viewers and many professionals in TV production and programming. The Cologne Conference will explore "Good TV’s" benefits and prospects.
