In 1987, Arnold Friedman, an involved model citizen living in a model American city, is arrested on suspicion of disseminating children’s pornography. In the days and weeks to follow, the case becomes a gigantic media event. Arnold Friedman and his youngest son Jesse are charged and convicted in one of the biggest abuse cases in U.S. history. In a suspenseful docu-thriller, Andrew Jarecki opens up the Friedman’s family album once again, finding not a perpetrator, but the victim of a huge hysteria, bribed witnesses, and suppressed evidence. In December 2001, Jesse Friedman is finally released after being incarcerated for 13 years for a crime he probably did not even commit. "Capturing the Friedmans" won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival.
