A slap in the face made Beate Klarsfeld famous overnight: In 1968 she gave German Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger a public clip around the ears in a symbolic protest against the tacit acceptance of former Nazis within mainstream society. The film cleverly weaves the public perception of Beate and Serge Klarsfeld as “Nazi hunters” with an intimate portrait of a committed Franco-German family whose primary concern was always to remember the victims rather than to pursue the perpetrators.
