After a string of family tragedies, Valentino and Daphne, two young Roma refugees from Bosnia thought to be orphans, leave Göteborg for the Balkans in search of their missing mother. What follows is an odyssey across Eastern Europe, a poetic road movie full of bizarre characters and forgotten rural landscapes. The two young principal actors, both amateurs, deliver memorable performances, portraying the journey across a Europe caught in a fairy tale slumber with astonishing credibility “The First Gypsy in Space” was awarded the Special Prix Europe for best low budget film.
