Commissioner Henri Lefort starts the workday by going into the office toilette and putting a bullet through his head. Director Alain Tasma (who learned his craft assisting Truffaut and Godard) goes after the reason why in a gripping production combining thriller and psychological drama. In a skillfully crafted series of revelations, Lefort’s apparently dismayed police colleagues are shown to be involved in a corruption scandal, a dramatic device which lends the characters a compelling psychological depth.
