Who will follow Kirch? Consolidation, recession, and crashes on the one hand, digitalization and internationalization of the cable networks on the other – the German TV market is undergoing its most profound transformation since private broadcasting was introduced in 1984. In light of this situation, 2002 is a critical year to explore the question of the future of television in structural, economic, and programming terms. In this Cologne Conference seminar, a keynote address will analyse the changes that have taken place in the market. Subsequently, podium discussions will concentrate on the consequences for programming from the point of view of TV channels, producers and the big media conglomerates.
