After the birth of her first child,Franziska (Yvonne Johna) moves to her mother in-law (Doris Kunstmann) in the country. The idyll soon turns into a nightmare of know-it-alls and malicious suspicions.Following a nervous breakdown, she is admitted to the special observation ward of the psychiatric clinic "Rosental”.Here Franziska learns to assert herself as an independent individual. From "Rainman”to "Awakenings”,psychiatry has always played an important role in film subject matter; until now physical ailments were more commonly broached in television. Now typhoon network and SAT.1 dare to address this touchy subject with "The Institute”,and the success of the pilot episode "My Husband’s Mother”does the makers justice.Further episodes of "The Institute”do not rely on cheap effects; rather paint a sensitive and emotional picture of everyday life at the clinic.
