Rudy Giuliani, the mayor of New York and a passionate proponent of “zero tolerance,” has turned a once crime-ridden city into one of the world’s safest metropolises. At the same time, he is one of the most controversial mayors, and tabloids worldwide regularly report on his cultural mission. More of a pamphlet than a documentary, “Rudyland” energetically speaks out against the Disneyfication of New York. At the same time, with its suggestive, powerful images and rapid edits, the film is an aesthetic roller-coaster ride through the heart of the Big Apple. Although it is an independent production, John Philp found prominent sponsors. Susan Sarandon does the narration.
