A nightmare for the Western world has long been reality in Swaziland. Every fourth person is HIV positive, with no end to the epidemic in sight. The Polish filmmakers Fidyk and Jablonski ("The Photographer") show the tragedy of this country from various perspectives. They “eavesdrop“ on conversations between young people as they fetch water, interview tribal elders clad in traditional garb and the director of the “Royal Mobile Broadcasting Unit“ dressed in a suit. Woven together, these different fragments present a disturbing picture of a country that vacillates between colonial legacy and tribal traditions, brought to a state of ruin by an incompetent ruler.
