A young man returns to his childhood home in Brighton Beach, also known as Little Odessa. He is now a Mafia hitman with a clear-cut job to get done there. But once arrived, confronted by his past and surrounded by his family, he suddenly finds himself unable to carry on carrying out cold-blooded executions. The happy homecoming turns into a tragedy in which the cold New York winter witnesses the decline and fall of an entire family. In James Gray's debut as director, crowned with the Silver Lion at the 1994 Venice Film Festival, Tim Roth has, with this intense portrayal of a cold-blooded killer, reached another plateau in his career. Once again, he shows himself to be an actor who cherishes extremely difficult roles playing broken individuals on the edge of existence.
