From early childhood the sisters Hilary and Jacqueline du Pré display an amazing talent for music, which is encouraged by their parents. Their ways part as young adults: Hilary ends her career as flutist and turns her attention to her family, while Jacqueline achieves world-wide fame as a cellist and becomes intimately involved with another outstanding musician, Daniel Barenboim. A private conflict between the sisters arises when Jackie finds that she is suffering from multiple sclerosis and thrusts herself into Hilary’s family life. Award-winning documentary filmmaker Anand Tucker bases his feature-film debut on the published memoirs of Jacqueline’s siblings, Hilary and Piers du Pré. The film was shown at the festivals in Venice and Toronto; the two actresses were nominated for an “Oscar”.
