Yo-Yo Ma, arguably the world’s most renowned contemporary cellist, conceived this series of six one-hour films inspired by Bach’s "Suites for Unaccompanied Cello", widely considered to be the most challenging works in the cello solo repertoire. In each programme, Ma is joined by fellow artists from various disciplines, such as film, dance or landscape architecture, to explore a Bach Suite as the starting point for an entirely new work. "Sarabande", the most narrative episode, elegantly weaves together a number of parallel stories and chance encounters, all centered around Ma’s music. "An immensely satisfying drama of deceptive simplicity" (Variety), masterfully conducted by Canadian star director Atom Egoyan.
