“Meia Noite” is the Brazilian contribution to the new Arte film series “2000 vu par…”, which gives an international ensemble of young directors the opportunity to explore their vision of this already historical date, featuring, among others, Romuald Karmakar, Ildiko Enyedi and Hal Hartley. Just released from prison on the eve of the year 2000, a young man roams the streets of Rio beyond the range of the festivities. At the same time, a young woman, left by her boyfriend, has decided to take her own life. The paths of the two desperados cross on a rooftop high above the Copacabana. With South American langour, Berlinale prize winner Walter Salles ("Central do Brasil") tells a poetic story of frustration and passion on the eve of the new millennium.
