The docuseries "African Dream“ takes a look at the unique world of African soccer - the "World Champions of Tomorrow" as it says on the handbill. The main focus is on the intercultural problems that arise in dealing with the European professional system. The episode "Black Star" follows a Belgian talent scout and his Nigerian protégé along the trail of try-outs and contract negotiations as they try to do business with the Belgian major league clubs. Director Manu Riche remains in the role of the unobtrusive observer and consistently refrains from interviews commentary and cliché characterizations of eccentric ball wizards and sleazy management. A balanced work with formal clarity and subtle humour.
