"Modulations“ traces the evolution of electronic music as one of the most profound artistic developments of the 20th century. By cutting back and forth between avant-garde composers, Kraftwerk’s sythesizer drones, Chicago House, Detroit Techno and recent British forms such as Jungle, the film replicates and illuminates the nomadic drift of the post-human techno sound. Brazilian-born documaker Iara Lee, whose first film "Synthetic Pleasures" received major critical acclaim and appeared in over 50 festivals worldwide, about the formal aspects of “Modulations”: “In the film, I use the same aesthetics of the music, incorporating all the ‘glitches’ and ‘impurities’ as part of the organic process. The same way electronic music is about sampling and recontextualisation of different elements, this film also follows the collage style.” “Kinetically dazzling…a true jet-set production, filmed everywhere from Ashbury Park to Mount Fuji.” (Variety)
