In 1947, responding to the nation's worst housing shortage ever, architect William Levitt designed wht was become the mother of modern suburbia: Levittown, Long Island. 17,000 "cookie cutter" houses with TVs built into the wall, assigned to residents in alphabetical order. In his first feature-length film, John O'Hagan makes an affectionate and highly enjoyable visit to present-day Levittown. Trough interviews, events and archival material, the film reveals an unexpected world of eccentric characters and varied lifestyles - below the surface appearance of total and sometimes mesmerizing uniformity.
