Born in New Dehli to a British father and an Austrian mother in 1946, Michael Radford attended Oxford University, graduating with honors in Politics and Philosophy. After working as a teacher, he bacame one of the first students at the newly opened National Film School in 1971. After graduation, he made a number of documentaries, including "The Madonna and the Volcano", which aw awarded "Best Documentary" at the Lyon Film Festival in 1979. The BBC production deals with music from the Naples region and its interpreters. He also worked for the BBC as a scriptwriter, producer, cameraman and author for comedy shows.
